D.o - Original Description:

Originally created for my Coulee Region forums, Advanced Forum builds on and enhances Drupal's core forum module. When used in combination with other Drupal contributed modules, many of which are automatically used by Advanced Forum, you can achieve much of what stand alone software provides. Because it uses the core forum module, it uses the node and comment system built into Drupal and is completely integrated, not a bridge.

News

February 5, 2011
D6 1.x: Desperately needs real world testing. I think it's ready for 1.2 but I don't use it. Would like to hear some feedback from the 12 thousand people who do. Make sure you move to Author Pane 2.x when going to the dev snapshot.

D6 2.x: See the list of Alpha 4 blockers and give the dev snapshot a good workout so we can shake out any other bugs before a new Alpha. Despite being "alpha" I do my best to ensure named releases are usable in production.

D7: Seems to be coming along pretty well under Troky's leadership. Please help him test so we can get an alpha release out.

Features

1.x features.
2.x features.

Dependencies

  • Requires (1.1): Core Forum, Author Pane 1.x, PHPTemplate based theme
  • Requires (1.2): 1.2 (which is currently the dev snapshot until I roll a new release requires AP 2.x!
  • Requires (2.x): Core Forum, Views 2.11, Chaos Tools, PHPTemplate based theme.
  • Recommended: Statistics (for views counter) and Author Pane 2.x (for 2.x)
  • Others: For a complete forum package, see this list of other contrib modules.

Version Status

  • D5 1.x is no longer supported or maintained.
  • D6 1.x is actively looking for a maintainer. There isn't much to do with it but it would be nice to have someone who's using it be there for support or to fix any bugs that come up. I suggest using the dev snapshot until 1.2 is released as there have been some bugs fixed since 1.1. Remember, the dev snapshot requires Author Pane 2.x.
  • D6 2.x is under active development. I am using it on Coulee Region Online and it works well for me but I have a small, risk tolerant site. If you choose to use it in production, make sure you test it and every upgrade thoroughly on a dev site first. Because it is alpha, be prepared for potentially large changes before 2.0. If you are planning on making extensive style changes, I suggest trying 2.x as there will be no automated upgrade of 1.x styles to 2.x and changes will likely need to be redone. While I test alphas and do my best to make them bug free, the development snapshot is frequently broken and not recommended for use.
  • D7 Troky ported and is maintaining this branch. At this time, Michelle is not involved at all. So many kudos to Troky. Without him, there wouldn't be a D7 branch before next summer.

    Demonstration

ShellSN is the demo site for my modules, including AF 2.x, that you can play with. You can also view an example implementation on my Coulee Region forums but please don't make an account there unless you actually plan to participate in our community. 2.x screenshots are available as well. At this time, there is no demonstration site for 1.x.

    Themes with styles

If you offer a theme (free or for purchase) that includes an Advanced Forum style, let me know and I'll add you to this list.

Fever Ultra - Included in the pay version.

    Share your site

If you are using this module on a publicly visible site, I'd love to hear from you. It's always fun to see your module used in the wild.

    Donations

If this module has helped you and you'd like to donate, I have a Chipin to raise money for a netbook so I have something portable to bring to DrupalCon.
